Meet our Young Adult Honoree: Katie Shern
My name is Katie Shern and I have juvenile psoriatic arthritis. I am 16 years old. I was diagnosed in June 2002 and have since taken several different kinds of medications. I was in 6th grade and spent most of the year where when I woke up I couldn’t walk. By the time 7th grade came, I was able to do more because we had tried several different medications. My arthritis went into a remission but has flared again in the last year.
I have not let this beat me. I have played girls field hockey in 7th and 8th grade. I continue to do most of the things I want because I enjoy them. I have a boyfriend. I work at JC Penny’s and I can’t wait until I get my driver’s license. I currently have my permit. Please help in the fight for a cure by participating in this year’s Arthritis Walk.
Walk with us this spring The Arthritis Walk® is the Arthritis Foundation’s annual nationwide event that raises awareness and funds to fight arthritis, the nation’s most common cause of disability. It is a tremendous opportunity to help improve the lives of the 46 million men, women and children doctor-diagnosed with arthritis.
